Client description

Business need

The manufacturing world is one of intense time pressure, hyper-competition, information overload and relentless challenges. Currently the manufacturing companies are consuming business information differently than in the past and therefore the need to reinventing the way an organization will manage their business processes and workflows is extremely high.

The solution

The application IT Six helped developing is a first to market web-based business solution that goes beyond business intelligence to power collective intelligence by synthesizing thousands of disparate data points simultaneously from the ERP, execution and control layers of the enterprise in ‘real-time’.

The application’s role is to manage the performance of any type of manufacturing enterprise and to provide a business solution that calculates in ‘real-time’ the key performance indicators used for monitoring and ultimately optimizing the efficiency, while providing drill-down capabilities to easily identify the ‘value drivers’ to hyper-manage business performance at the points of execution.

The challenge

The main challenge of the project lied in selecting the most appropriate technologies and platforms available in order to provide the required capabilities for the critical functional requirements:

  • Automated data collection through OPC server capabilities, data warehousing
  • Efficient processing of requests for performance monitoring information, presented as aggregated reports extracted from massive datasets and allowing for very flexible filtering and drill-down capabilities,
  • User friendly interface, allowing for ease of use when formulating requests while providing rich context and superior rendering of reports, particularly in chart and dashboard formats

The platform had to be highly scalable and adaptive to different customers and to different purposes and had to be integrated with an automatic data collection component, using OPC Servers to record production information.

IT Six helped building such a robust and scalable architecture with respect to business logic complexity that allows further enhancements, full customizations of the existing modules and also development of new modules required by the customers.
